Vocational Rehabilitation Consultant.



Western Rehabilitation Specialists Inc (WRS) is looking for a Vocational Rehabilitation Consultant.  Our mission is to provide service to our customers with integrity, fairness and accountability.  WRS has been providing vocational rehabilitation services since 1989.  



Position: Vocational Rehabilitation Consultant

Status: Contract (competitive hourly rate)

Location: Central and Southern Alberta



DUTIES:

  • Assess vocational potential of clients by completing in-depth personal interviews, evaluation of client's medical condition, work experience, and education. 



  • Working collaboratively to provide support to clients by assisting with the coordination of services to facilitate the individual’s rehabilitation and/or return to work plan; may include interviews with the client’s physician or other health care professionals  



  • Assist clients in preparation for work including resume writing, job search techniques, interview preparation, and job placement assistance. Coach clients in order to facilitate change and initiate goal activation interventions.



  • Analyze transferable skills with relation to current labour trends and conduct Labour Market Surveys to document this.



  • Prepare objective comprehensive reports and rehabilitation plans within timelines; correspond or confer with referring parties in a timely and professional manner, providing expert opinion as to client's employment potential, and/or barriers to employment.



QUALIFICATIONS / KNOWLEDGE:

  • Degree in the field of rehabilitation, social sciences, kinesiology or health care profession in a related area.  Appropriate licensing, designations or eligibility such as CCRC, RRP, CVRP or equivalent.  Membership in a professional association is required. A combination of education, experience along with appropriate designation will be considered.  Will provide training to a suitable candidate.



  • Knowledge of medical terminology, disabling conditions, and therapies such as work conditioning, physical therapy and/or drug therapies.



  • Knowledge of procedures and resources for assessing transferable skills, completing labour market surveys, and community resources for providing vocational rehabilitation services.



  • Above average assessment, analytical and communication skills (oral and written); ability to relay or explain complex issues. Skills in facilitation, coaching, negotiation, and conflict resolution are required. Superior research skills and computer skills are required.  Strong attention to detail.



  • Security clearance is required (recent within three months).  Adherence to ethics and standards of practice.



  • Travel: a valid driver’s license, personal vehicle with supplemental business insurance coverage is required.  Mileage is compensated for work travel. As this is a contract position, equipment required will include a computer, printer/scanner, locked file cabinet and work from a home based office. Proof of liability insurance in the amount of $2 million is required.
